About the production
Strauss’s romantic comedy travels to 1950s Vienna, where the Marschallin’s young lover Octavian falls for Sophie and a marriage arrangement becomes a tangle of disguises and misunderstandings. Lush orchestral writing and Viennese waltzes accompany a bittersweet story about love and the passing of time. Sung in German with projected English translation. Approximately 4 hours 15 minutes, including two intermissions.
